DSU hosts Native American artist

Dakota State University will host Native American artist Roger Broer on Wednesday in the Mundt Library Gallery.

A reception will begin at 5 p.m., with a gallery talk by Broer at 6 p.m. and a demonstration of his printing process at 7 p.m.

Broer will be joined by folk musician Marnie Cook at 5 p.m. in the gallery. She will also perform in the DSU Underground starting at 8 p.m.

Broer has exhibited his work in more than 35 one-man shows and over 100 group shows. He has paintings in both national and international collections, including the Department of Interior, Washington, D.C., Oglala Sioux Tribal Health Services Hospital, Pine Ridge, Mountain Bell, Denver, Colo., SAFECO Insurance Company of America, Seattle, Wash., SEAFIRST Bank Corp., Seattle, Wash., Northern Plains Tribal Arts, American Indian Services Inc., Sioux Falls, Museum of Nebraska Art, Kearney, Neb., and Pierre Cardin, Paris, France.

Broer has received more than 50 awards in national shows, including the Northern Plains Tribal Arts and Northern Plains Indian Market, Trail of Tears Show and the Red Cloud Show.

DSU is hosting Broer and Cook in celebration of Native American Month.
