TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - Union workers at Fry's and Safeway may hit the picket lines as early as this Friday.

The union representing those employees say there's been no progress in contract negotiations.

At issue is healthcare benefits.

In the past, Safeway and Fry's paid for their employees insurance, but now the companies want to pass more of the cost to employees.

The union says they are meeting with grocery workers Monday to answer questions about the negotiations.

Meanwhile Fry's president Jon Flora says they have met the union more than halfway and their offer is good given the difficult economy.

Fry's is preparing for a strike by advertising jobs for thousands of temporary workers.
