Let Health Companies Compete

auto insurance

I heard on Fox News recently that health insurance companies are not allowed to compete with each other on an interstate basis, unlike life insurance, auto insurance. If the purpose of health-care reform is to make health insurance more affordable, why not just make it legal for them to compete nationwide?

That should lower prices quickly without getting the government involved in running the business. If I have to buy insurance or go to jail, I'll take jail with its free room, board and health coverage.
